behind the Blood & Ink

Lizette Docksey is the author of the Shadowbound Universe, a romantasy series rooted in gothic atmosphere, emotional realism, and lyrical prose. Her work is shaped by the emotional depth of Anne Rice, the immersive worldbuilding of Laurell K. Hamilton, and the character-driven intensity of J.R. Ward. These influences, combined with years of study and personal experience, inform stories that explore love, loss, resilience, and the kind of hope that rises from ashes.

Lizette returned to university as an adult to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English, followed by a Master’s in Creative Writing. Her academic journey deepened her understanding of narrative structure, literary tradition, and the craft of storytelling. Alongside her studies, she spent years reading the works of her literary icons, absorbing their techniques and refining her own voice.

Her life has been shaped by profound loss. She has lost her soulmate to cancer, A close friend to suicide, and both of her parents in recent years. These experiences have given her stories their emotional weight and authenticity. Yet she writes from a place of gratitude as well, surrounded by the love of her daughter, three beautiful grandchildren, and a close friend named Caroline, whose presence she describes as soul-sisterhood.

Her pen name, drawn from her 18th-century family tree, reflects a legacy reclaimed through creativity. The Shadowbound Universe is her phoenix rising from ashes, stitched with scars, and lit by the spark of enduring hope.
